StarTribune Notices Sutton-Cooper Baja Sol Divorce, Two Weeks After Bluestem Prairie Covered It

I see that the crack staff at what’s left of the hollowed-out shell of a once-excellent paper have finally latched onto the fact that Tony and Bridget Sutton are no longer with Baja Sol:

The south-of-the-border-themed commercial marriage of Minnesota Republican Party boss Tony Sutton has ended in an “amicable” divorce from banker Bill Cooper, who headed the Republican Party a decade ago.

Cooper and Tony and Bridget Sutton bought the Baja Sol chain, in which the Suttons were franchisees, in 2006.

“Bridget and I are no longer a part of the ownership of Baja Sol,” Sutton said in an e-mail. “Our separation was amicable.”

Yeah, an “amicable” separation where, as BSP’s Sally Jo Sorensen puts it, Mr. Cooper was the one to keep the “house.”

Speaking of Ms. Sorensen, guess who broke the story of the Sutton-Cooper rift back on March 7? Yup, that would be her:

Over the weekend, word came from two different sources–one from the restaurant business, another from politics–that Bridget Sutton is no longer with the Baja Sol restaurant chain.

A call to the Baja Sol corporate office this morning confirmed that Sutton was “no longer with” the company. I was directed to the company attorney for further information.

And did Strib reporter Neil St. Anthony once credit Ms. Sorensen? Of course not.
